What Are Security Fixings?

10/08/2022

Security fixings include anchors, nuts, bolts and screws that provide a more secure method of fastening items compared to traditional fixings. The design of security screws and other fixings make it very difficult for thieves or vandals to remove them, even using tools like screwdrivers and the fixings are usually manufactured using A2 stainless steel.

Where property is at risk of being damaged or stolen, it is possible to use security fixings to secure items to walls or to the ground, to make it nearly impossible for the items to be stolen.

There are two key options to consider when selecting security fasteners firstly, do you need a fastener you can remove again for maintenance or, are you looking to secure the product and never to need to remove it again?

If it is an application where you may need to remove it, you need a product with a drive on it that is not readily available to the public. If it is a situation where you do not need to remove it use a product such as our Shear nuts, Kinmar Security Nuts or Armour Rings which are designed to only go on one way or not to be removable!

Industries such as aerospace and automotive, financial services and the prison and probation services commonly use security fixings to ensure that items are tamper-proof. There are a few different types of security fixings that will suit different requirements, including:

Security anchors

Security anchors are typically used for window and door security but can also be used for a wide range of applications. They can be used on security grilles, which are often used by retail companies, as well as catering and medical applications to provide the highest level of security against tampering.

Security nuts

Security nuts can be used when the male mating fastener is not accessible, to secure the other end that will be accessible. These types of fixings are often used on materials like playground equipment to prevent vandals from tampering with the equipment and risking causing an accident.

Security screws

Security screws are tamper-proof fixings that can be used for securing a wide range of equipment, such as electronics including security cameras. The screws can be used in the same way as standard screws but instead of having a design that can be unscrewed using a flathead or crosshead screwdriver, the screw can only be unscrewed using a specially designed head. When you purchase the security screws, you should also be provided with the matching security insert bits and Allen keys to fit them.

If you have experienced damage or vandalism to items of your property or you are concerned that your equipment could be stolen, security fixings are the most effective way to prevent theft or vandalism. They are easy to use and are a cost-effective way to keep your property protected.

A pack of 100 security screws can cost as little as 18p per screw, so they do not cost much more than a standard pack of screws but provide significantly more security.
